Gastroenterology / Hepatology / Endoscopy

Dr Swartz is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist.

About Me

Dr David Swartz’s approach to the management of gastrointestinal disease, and to patient care in general, is to focus on the patient as an individual, rather than just someone with a set of symptoms or a disease label. To this end, he endeavours to investigate and manage people in a manner that is appropriate for their own situation, with the same dedication as he would a close friend or family member. Dr Swartz employs the most up-to-date evidence and endoscopic techniques to achieve the best possible outcome for all patients under his care.

  • Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP)
  • Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), University of Western Australia

Dr Swartz graduated from medical school in Western Australia in 2001, and permanently relocated to NSW in 2003. His specialist training was undertaken at both Wollongong and Bankstown Hospitals in Sydney, and he has been a practising Gastroenterologist since 2010.

Post-Fellowship Sub-Specialised Training:

Dr Swartz undertook post-fellowship training in Therapeutic and Interventional Endoscopy, at the prestigious Duke University Medical Centre in the USA. He is the only fellowship-trained interventional endoscopist in the Illawarra region. After completing his international fellowship in 2013, Dr Swartz joined the gastroenterology practise of Dr Chris Hatton. Dr Swartz took over the running of this practise upon Dr Hatton’s retirement in 2016.
