Eosinophilic Oesophagitis
Eosinophilic Oesophagitis (EoE) is an allergic, inflammatory condition of the oesophagus, triggered by one of a number of common food groups. It can occur in all age groups, and causes symptoms such as food sticking after swallowing and chest pain. It may mimic other common condition such as acid reflux (GORD). Diagnosis requires biopsy of the oesophagus during a gastroscopy. Highly effective treatments are available, including dietary therapy and swallowed steroid, which can alleviate symptoms and prevent long-term complications.
